I argue that because landlords currently have their tenants over a barrel, rent in many parts of the UK has become a kind of private taxation, that the poor are forced to pay to the rich.
Here's the comment I've just posted below the line, that seeks to put this daylight robbery in context.
It shows how successfully we have been kept in ignorance, when basic terms like “rent-seeking” are treated as some kind of abstruse gobbledegook. It should be part of everyone’s vocabulary.
