Vegetarianism is mostly a good thing. One recommends it

But one mustn't romanticize Indian vegetarian food (which I subsist on)

There is a world of a difference between the vegan food consumed by Djokovic and the sugar-laden, rice heavy, "low on veggie" food consumed by Indians
The problem with the "traditionalist" discourse in India is -

There is little emphasis on the ideal of "mitAhAra" (moderate eating) prescribed in our ancient texts

There is a vague glorification of vegetarianism, without much attention to the right kind of vegetarian food
The best "vegetarian" food one can eat is the food that is served on death ceremonies down South.

The 12th day food..Which is usually very rich in several vegetables, and low on delicacies and sugar
Go to any wedding down South.

Whenever the cook comes over to serve Dal (pulses), it is usually served in such terribly small quantities! The so-called "Paruppu sadam" (in Tamil)

Very often the pickle served is more than the "paruppu" served

One should have more dal than that
