1. Education - He killed an effort to give teachers a $4,000 pay raise this year; MS teacher pay is far lower than surrounding states.

He did help slip in $3 million to fund private school vouchers.

In 2016, high income white counties with medium-educations voted for Trump at higher rates than for Obama in 2012.

But high education white counties with medium incomes voted for Clinton at higher rates than they did for Obama. 2/3

Now he’s thinking of making cuts to #healthcare, education, protection for our air and water, #renewableenergy programs, and critical infrastructure funding to rebuild our roads and bridges – all to fund his big, dumb wall.

#Healthcare is a fundamental human right. In 2018, our legislature helped to ensure that right by expanding Medicaid. As of today, nearly 250K Virginians have enrolled in the program and now have access to quality healthcare.
This is what happens when we elect Democrats who are tenacious and unwilling to accept the status quo. But we still have work to do. We still have an opioid epidemic that is devastating communities and major improvements that need to be made to our mental health care system.
Last week, I was happy to visit one of our local facilities and have a great discussion with physicians and staff about these issues; we even tackled the benefits of community health.

I put this thread up Friday. Few RTs because #disability ♿ and #poverty are boring to people who aren't living it.

That's a real problem in America.

Yet my mentions were full of people facing the same struggle --the fear, frustration and isolation.

The failure to prioritize sick & #disabled people in America is an actual catastrophe for millions. We already know nearly all of America's #homeless suffer from some #disability.

Also, 81M disabled & 131M chronically ill Americans struggle financially due to medical costs.
When the #GOPTaxScam eviscerated the #ACA mandate, it jacked up the premiums for every sick person in America. Mine went from $239 a month for my HMO to $1,978.10.

The CBO said it would happen and it did. Millions have dropped their health insurance because of these price hikes.

2/Basically, I think the most important things in econ policy are institutions, public goods provision, and redistribution.

Essentially none of these things work right if people don't have a shared sense of national identity.
3/Without a shared sense of identity, public goods provision falters: nber.org/papers/w20504
