@realDonaldTrump Good to see such a thoughtful statement of concern from the federal govt for the city I live in, just 40 miles up the road from the gleaming capital.
@realDonaldTrump A few quick thoughts on this, FWIW. Baltimore has indeed been going through a very rough stretch the past 4+ years. But one of the things that's been so striking is how LITTLE support or interest there's been from Washington to what's been going on here, just up the road.
@realDonaldTrump "Where is all this money going?" he asks. Well, I can tell you where some of it went. The feds did approve $900 million for a new rail transit line that would've linked W. Baltimore to jobs downtown. But the project was killed in 2015 by Gov. Hogan. So that money went back to DC.
@realDonaldTrump Meanwhile, Baltimore wasn't even included until v recently in a federal initiative to help high crime cities, even though its homicide rate is highest by far among large cities. Why wasn't it included? Because the Trump admin considered it too friendly to undocumented immigrants.
@realDonaldTrump So we now have a situation where a city one hour from Washington has had more than 300 homicides four years in a row (headed for a 5th) with 25 more homicides so far this year than NYC, a city 14 times as large. And nary a peep from the federal government just down the road.
@realDonaldTrump But here's the kicker. @realDonaldTrump is likely unaware that Cummings' district--"no human being would want to live there"--in fact has quite a few of Trump's own people. Thanks to Dem gerrymandering, it stretches way into wealthy outer burbs. Do those count as "human beings?"
@realDonaldTrump Oh, and get this, folks: you know which "human beings" do live in Cummings' district? Several thousand people in the apartment complexes owned by one Jared Kushner, who fails to maintain the units and takes tenants to court to squeeze more $$ out of them. nytimes.com/2017/05/23/mag…
@realDonaldTrump Trump calls Cummings' district a "disgusting rat and rodent infested mess." Maybe he's referring to this Kushner-owned rental unit: "Marquita Parmely, a truck driver, told me she had a mouse infestation severe enough that her 12-year-old daughter recently found one in her bed..."
@realDonaldTrump "...Parmely also has a 2-year-old with asthma, which is aggravated by allergens in mice droppings. She moved her own bed & other furniture away from the walls to dissuade mice, kept the family’s laundry in tote bags after mice started appearing in the hamper & vacuumed 2X a day."
@realDonaldTrump Or maybe Trump is referring to the maggots at this Kushner unit: "The bedroom ceiling started leaking one day. Then maggots started coming out of the living-room carpet. Then raw sewage started flowing out of the kitchen sink. 'It sounded like someone turned a pool upside down.'"
@realDonaldTrump "'I heard the water hitting the floor and I panicked. I got out of bed and the sink is black and gray, it’s pooling out of the sink and the house smells terrible.' Cox stopped cooking for herself and her son, not wanting food near the sink."
@realDonaldTrump "When she moved out soon afterward, Westminster Management [Kushner's real estate management company] sent her a $600 invoice for a new carpet and other repairs." Again, it's all here: propublica.org/article/the-be…

@realDonaldTrump Finally, to those who say I'm minimizing the extent of the dysfunction in Baltimore and the city's own responsibility for it, I urge you to read this piece from just a few months ago, which seeks to grapple with the city's unraveling of the past few years: nytimes.com/2019/03/12/mag…
