Kudos to the authors for publishing the full data...
To me, these data do not show a substantial difference in uterine hormones between later-diagnosed autistic and non-diagnosed fetuses (even if the stats show it is statistically "significant")
Moreover, even if we take them at face value (and we really shouldn't, IMO), this study is merely correlational and does not imply a causal role of uterine hormones on risk of autism
This highlights a general problem with the literature looking for evidence of environmental risk factors for autism - negligible effect sizes:

@markdhumphries I strongly agree on the potential value of simulations. The question is how much detail do we need to put in there? (Maybe it's hard to know till you build it + see...)
@markdhumphries Maybe best to start with really detailed models of really simple nervous systems and see what principles can be abstracted that would allow less detailed simulation of more complicated ones...

I'm reading @danieldennett's latest, from Bacteria to Bach, and really like the distinction he draws between semantic information and pragmatic implication... (p. 122)
@danieldennett When we talk about information “meaning” something to the organism, this doesn’t necessarily imply comprehension.
@danieldennett It's not semantic info "represented" in the system – it’s pragmatic info – the arrangement of bits of the system such that when it is presented with a certain situation (info about the world or itself – state A) it will tend to move to state B, rather than states C or D or E.

1⃣My talk yesterday focused on scientific integrity in IAAF regulatory policy making. The story of the DSD regulations which were temporarily suspended by a Swiss court yesterday is complex & the details matter.
2⃣There are legitimately diverse perspectives on "sex testing" in sport. I won't get to all that here, as my focus is narrowly on scientific integrity.

Second: The actual experts do not agree with you, and your fear-mongering is likely causing more harm than good.
