How I Saved My Parent’s Struggling Business With Skills I Learned On Twitter

I'm still absolutely mindblown that this was possible.

~A THREAD~
A year and a half ago my parents started a small local service-based business. The business is brick and mortar and they locked themselves into a long commercial lease and had very high startup costs. Basically, they bet the farm on it.
As the months went by their business grew organically from word of mouth and strong reviews, they had started to gain some traction.

Their service has incredible reviews and their customers rave about it. Everything was pointing in the right direction.
A year and a half later the business has continued to grow, but frankly, it hasn’t been enough.

My dad, close to retirement, is writing massive checks to the business every month to cover their losses.

At a certain point despite their growth, it became unsustainable.
About a month ago, something happened that I’ll never forget. Usually calm, cool and collected, my Dad called me with a frantic tone in his voice.

“If things don’t turn around, I am absolutely fucked. I’m bleeding money and have bet it all on this working” he said.
It was that moment that I knew I had to do something.

I’ve been studying marketing and running paid traffic for eCommerce stores for a couple of years now, surely there was something I could do to help.

So, I decided to turn to my resources and connections on Twitter.
I was (and am still) a part of @RyanHolmerr and @BenWByrne's immersion program.

They teach how to sign clients and provide guidance on how to get the clients results.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne At the time, I was trying to sign Chiropractors to run lead gen ads for them because I knew it others had made it work.

I immediately shifted my attention to building a lead get funnel for my parents business so that I could drive them more customers and make an impact.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne I decided to run lead form ads on Facebook because I knew if I could get interested customers and follow up with them, I'd be able to at least bring some customers in.

So, I ran ads to a 12-mile radius of my parent’s business and asked for prospect's name, email, and number.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne I created a follow-up sequence so that as soon as someone clicks the ad and submits their information, they receive an automated text and follow up email reminding them to call my parents to register.

This was automated through Zapier so my parents didn't have to lift a finger.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne We launched 3 weeks ago and since then, my parents have seen a 50% increase in month to month revenue and are profitable.

They have the entire month of August booked already and have received a 30X return on their ad spend.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne 70% of their new customers have come from Facebook and they are continuing to pour in.

They’re even entertaining the idea of expanding the space that they rented out because they are literally having to turn customers away.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne I’ve seen quite a few Shopify screenshots and PayPal payments come through for me in my day, but absolutely none of them have felt as good as giving back to my parents.

This has literally changed my parent's lives and altered the trajectory of their business
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne I want to thank Ryan and Ben for putting together such an incredible program.

The attention to detail and the consistent help that they provide is unparalleled and I couldn’t have done this without them. I’m looking forward to signing more local businesses with their teachings.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne I also want to thank @AdsAlchemist and @dvbizz for answering a ton of lead gen questions that I had when I set out to do this.

It helps having an ecom background but it's still a learning curve and they guided me through it.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne @AdsAlchemist @dvbizz If you’re a local business or you know someone who’s a local business who needs help or could use more customers, shoot me a DM.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne @AdsAlchemist @dvbizz If you’d like to learn how you can do this for local businesses whether it’s your parents or if you want to do it for clients too, shoot me a DM.
@RyanHolmerr @BenWByrne @AdsAlchemist @dvbizz I'm ever thankful for this side of Twitter.

I've made a ton of great friends both online and in-person and I've developed some pretty useful skills that are starting to really impact both my life and my family.
