I just completed my first game against an SSD for #StarWarsArmada. It was a long, brutal slog. Details below!

It was Ackbar vs. Tagge.

Home One, Aspiration, and Mon Karren against the SSD Ravager, ISD Relentless, and VSD Warlord.

Hera, Shara, Wedge, Ten Numb with other fighters vs. Valen Rudor, Mauler, Howlrunner, Strom, and other fighters.

Upgrades aplenty.

By the third round, the MC75 succumbed to BRUTAL fire from the ISD and SSD.

However, it severely damaged the ISD. Ackbar moved in with upgraded broadsides on Home One and sent the Relentless to the bottom!

However, my advantage in fighters and the bravery of Wedge, Shara, and Hera to tie up (pun intended) the Imp fighters ensured that Norra, Gold Squadron, Numb, and Dagger Squadron got in to start a withering fire on arcs of the SSD lacking shields.

With Ackbar firing at long range, Mon Karren barely escaping the VSD/SSD combo due to increasing speed, and my fighters tearing into the Ravager, I was able to finally kill the SSD at the end of round 5! 😁

The mighty dreadnought was beaten! 💥

This was very tough, but very rewarding. 💪🏼

I forgot how lethal an upgraded MC80 assault cruiser variant with Ackbar, enhanced armament, and overload pulse is. Ditto I forgot how much I love the Mon Karren’s ability to prevent an attacker from using only one defense token in an attack.

The SSD is interesting. I played against the lowest value variant, as I wanted some escorts. It’s ability to wipe out a ship in a few volleys is deadly. Though I can see why some folks are going the “swarm” approach with a lot of smaller ships.

My advice to Imperial players would be to give your SSD a solid fighter screen. Don’t assume you’ll simply swat away any resistance. The ship is powerful, but don’t make the classic Imperial mistake of valuing firepower over versatility and balance.

I might have to try an 800 or 1200 point game eventually... when I have like 5-6 hours to spare. 😜🤷🏻‍♂️
