Like Warren, the policy wonk, I believe the impact of lawmakers actions matters more than their intent.

So let’s look at the IMPACT of Warren’s apology, specifically those three sentences she said last week...
Did it debunk the popular and harmful myth that DNA testing “proves” Native identity or heritage?

❌ Nope.

Did it teach the 1/2 mil White ppl who claim to be Cherokee that vague family stories are often false and unsubstantiated claims undermine tribal sovereignty?

❌ Nope.
Did it give Warren fans (like @ryangrim 👇🏼) a great reason to tell her Native critics to be quiet.

✅ Yep!

Warren in her missteps has perpetuated the worst stereotypes about Native identity. Those stereotypes (family lore, DNA testing, blood quantum) still come out every time some one defends her.

The least she could do is make a public statement that undoes the confusion she caused
The truth is the majority of people “accepting” her apology never demanded it in the first place. They’ve never pushed Warren to do what’s right. They’ve only pushed for this issue to go away.
