Turning Texas Blue and the Consequences for America.

A thread.

I'm Donna Imam, a Computer Engineer from Austin Texas running for US Congress in the northern suburbs of Austin Williamson and Bell Counties aka #TX31. Here’s “Why I’m Running for Congress”: votefordonna.com/why
Why should you care? Because this district #TX31 is 2.9% from flipping BLUE.

Why does that matter? Texas is gerrymandered and this district has been red from its inception. In 2018 Williamson County already went BLUE. As an engineer and emerging tech researcher I got curious.
So I spent the last 6 months researching this district myself personally and what I found was astounding!

Texas Democrats are politically disengaged. They do not believe that Texas can be BLUE, or their vote could matter, so they stay home and don’t show for primary elections
Latino, Black and Immigrant American votes are highly depressed in Texas and these communities often don’t participate in elections because they do not have anyone that really represents their VOICE. They are not inspired.
They do not trust “centrist” candidates that won’t take a firm position on things that matter to them: like access to healthcare, good education, high wages, fair criminal justice laws, just immigration policy and solutions to gun violence so their kids can be safe at school.
The average working family in Texas is yearning for a candidate that will work FOR and represent them and amplify their voices. They are young families with kids. All they want is to take care or their families, contribute and be part of Texas. They are hardworking Texans.
A lot of people don’t believe that Texas is blue and just waiting to show their colors.

How do I know Texas will go BLUE? The median age in Texas is 34.4 years old, compared to 37.8 nationally (2015 data). It’s even lower now in 2019!

Let me give you an example to illustrate.
Earlier this year the Central Texas Pride event drew over 700 people in a small town called Harker Heights in Bell County, in attendance were all colors of the rainbow. Organized by young college trans and gay students it happened smack dab in the middle of a red GOP stronghold!
If we turn Texas blue in 2020, specifically #TX31 BLUE it will have reverberating and lasting consequences for the US political landscape and policy going forward.

And yes it CAN and will happen, it's just a matter of time. And 2020 is the time.
Turning Texas blue will be a HUGE indicator of the changes in demographics, in who we are as Americans, how we want to live & what our future is going to look like.

Help turn Texas BLUE, donate today, we're running a grass-roots campaign and we need you! votefordonna.com/donate
Oh, and I'm not the only one who has discovered this.
