I had a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience yesterday evening when I decided to take a stroll down to Granny's Cove on SJI, and who should show up but J Pod. Not only that, they performed one of their legendary "greeting ceremonies" for me, which I had never previously witnessed.
Here are some of the photos I took as well. I only wish I'd had my hydrophone!

I haven't seen the new Joker movie yet, but what I've been reading about it so far is somewhat troubling. Certainly the connection to incel culture should raise some flags.

I don't really believe that these films actually cause the violence that attaches to them, but they can become vessels for psychopathic personalities, and at the very least transmitters of some very toxic ideas. They DO take on lives of their own.

TNR's piece focuses on the Aurora theater shooting in 2012 as an instance of Joker-inspired real-world violence. But I recall an even more vivid, and relevant, case: Jared Miller, the Bundy Ranch "Patriot" who killed two cops in a Las Vegas rampage.

2) The current surge in authoritarian behavior from the occupant of the Oval Office seems to have started with the rush of eliminationist rhetoric aimed particularly at “The Squad” last month.

1) Let me provide some useful information about John Turano, aka "Based Spartan," who along with his adult daughter Bianca was attacked by antifascists today in Portland. You've all seen the video. It's ugly. (Via @RVAwonk) Short thread follows.

@RVAwonk 2) First, it goes without saying that no one deserves assault. However, when it comes to Turano, the likelihood he had something to do with provoking it is high. Certainly we can see him being an aggressor in the video. Not that that's an excuse. Tempers were high today.
@RVAwonk 3) So, about Based Spartan and his daughter Bianca, who is actually in her 20s. I've covered about 16 of these events now, and Turano has been at a buttload of them, wearing his faux Spartan armor and threatening to beat antifascists.

2/ Barr claims that the nationwide injunction entered by a federal court in CA on January 9, 2018 "proved catastrophic" to efforts to find "a political compromise" on #DACA. The injunction (and similar orders from courts in DC and NY) required DHS to continue processing renewals.
3/ First of all, this a crisis entirely of Trump's own making. Then-AG Sessions and the Texas AG cooked up the mere threat of litigation over #DACA, which has never been found unlawful or unconstitutional, as a pretext for ending the program on 9/5/17.

Another day at the palace means another day to conform to their standards. This was never how Joohyun wanted to live her life. Paparazzis everywhere and everyone updating on her life. The only way to keep them out was to be cold towards them.
The highlight of her everyday was helping out in the orphanage run by nuns in the outskirts of the city. Where she goes by the name ‘Irene’.

It is where she becomes herself without the worry of people following her every move.
