I tried to avoid ‘political’ threads for a while, but this is really something that deserves attention — PH are short-sighted and populist ... let’s see if we can get a thread going
Young people aren’t competing for the same jobs as 60 year olds ... if they are, then it’s only in the highly manual, low-skilled jobs.

Guess what, those jobs are going to be automated anyway ... watch American Factory on Netflix, and go to the end, you’ll see it
If you work in a entry level clerical job, the bad news is there’s probably 10,000 professors in academia working on trying to automate your job away.

Believe me, they’re building software to scan, OCR, and comprehend documents... just like humans ...
The software can read an invoice understand the amount, make the payment, and send an email once it’s complete.

They working on every document type there is, from receipts, to contracts, to claim forms ...
But unlike humans, software can scale to the thousands, software takes no bathroom breaks, software doesn’t call in sick, and software works 24/7

Humans need not apply...

There’s Billions in venture capital backing that research, it’s a question of when not if!
If you work in retail, as more people shop online, there’s going to be less need for retail staff.

When you shop online, software decides what to suggest to you, and it does a better job than 99% of humans.

After you make a purchase, robots stack and pack your items to ship
Humans need not apply. They really can’t compete.

Eventually Amazon will perfect their drone delivery, soon there will be autonomous vehicles delivering packages (and eventually even you) from point a to point b...

Only question is when ....
Which bring me back to good ol’ Syed ... when he promoted GoJek, he’s basically pawning the future of thousands of young riders — all for the sake of a few votes.

Those jobs will be gone before the next 2 elections, he’ll have a new portfolio the. But wait...
He claims to speak for the youth ... but who speaks for the 58 year old workers struggling to make ends meet with insufficient savings?

This adversarial style politics only works if we have a Minister of Nearly Retired Workers ... otherwise they’re voices aren’t heard
So it pains me to see our country, so helplessly ill-prepared for the onslaught of AI and automation.

Dego, Grab, FoodPanda ... thats holding up a Hello Kitty umbrella against a Hurricane.

There’s billions poured by corporations to automate jobs away
If only our government would spend equal amounts of money preparing for this future.

And while you’re at it, let the people retire later on in life!
