Dr. Torrance was the head of the Scottish hospital in Tiberias and a photographer. He had 2 favorite subjects: medical abnormalities and the Jews of Tiberias. He sent pics back to Univ of Dundee Medical School Archives where I found them!

I only scratched the archives, but what was available was amazing. More pictures taken by Dr. Torrance, the son. The father also had amazing pics going back to the 1880s.
Torrance photographed a serious flood in Tiberius, including survivors and casualties. Also snow (very unusual) and a rabbi mixed up between Purim and Rosh Hashanah.
Torrance in Tiberius. He was concerned about untreated water. This picture exemplified his concern. Everybody took care of all their needs at the same location.
I saw that in Egypt along the Nile in the 1990s.
Torrance's pics of medical abnormalities: this one I'm saving for my book "Secrets of World War I in the Holy Land" and the chapter on Diseases that Killed more than Bullets.
This pic of a soldier with "Jericho Buttons," is in medical books today, per my son the doctor.

An incredible story: last night my neighbor Eyal was driving home w his 3 kids & he saw an Arab car, doors open, at the entrance gate to Efrat.
Last wk, only 100 meters from there,18 y.o. Dvir Soruk's stabbed body was found & 2 teens were deliberately run down 1 km away. 1/
Efrat's Palestinian neighbors know to come to the gate if they have a medical emergency. Such was case last night. In the car was a man from Hebron, unconscious, no pulse.
By chance Eyal was there. A paramedic, he runs Efrat's emerg services. In his trunk he had defibrillator. 2/
3/ Eyal's team arrived, including his wife Edeet, also a paramedic who was on night shift at ambulance station. They did everything: defib, CPR, meds, intubation until he was stabilized for ambul to hospital.
After all the terrorist attacks, why do Israelis save this Pals' life?

#Jerusalem's Pilgrims' Path is under City of David-Dung Gate area.
See photos taken in 1950s while under Jordan's Administration. The area is bare, untouched by residents or archaeologists.
Also note in enlargement the razed remains of the
Jewish Qtr & Rothschild bldg. /1
Color pics show how little development was done in the area pre-1967 under Jordan. Most of the building done in last 50 yrs under Israel.

Area of Silwan/Siloam was home to Jews, too, until Arab pogroms & expulsion. Some Pics date back 120 yrs. Yemenite Jews came in 1882.
This annotated picture of Silwan in 1880s was from a Bonfils collection in Lebanon preserved by British Museum.

Dr. Othman al-Hasan was on his way to the hospital to perform an imp surgery on a wounded patient last night, when his car was shot at/attacked by HTS. They beat him, took him to the hospital, kidnapped him from the hospital & beat him again, then sent him back to the hospital.
The attacks that Syrians in North West Syria face are not limited to the terrorism and barbarism of Assad, Hezbollah and Russia - but of HTS too, which acts in impunity knowing that the ultimate price to be paid will be by the Syrian civilians.
It is abhorrent, that with all the Geneva Conventions that exist, all the supposedly humanitarian education/diplomacy/training that millions is spent on - Syrians are still forced to live between terrorists - raining down on them from the sky and abusing them on ground.

Question for #Jews about #Judaism:

I was just rereading Deuteronomy and that stuff in Deuteronomy 28 really seems like it must be describing the almost 2,000 year exile from Jerusalem. The galut or galuyot, right? But then the beginning of Deut 30 promises return! Yay!

So...
We have some sense of just how observant and “righteous” these first century Pharisees were — from Josephus and even Tacitus. But it strikes me that these Pharisees, whom modern rabbinic Jews hold up as an example, were the ones that god apparently sent into a 2,000 year exile...
Now, is it that this section in Deuteronomy supposedly does not refer to this long exile? Did god not mention this long exile to come in the Torah? I think he did, but what do you think, Jew?

If Deut 28 is about this exile, then some questions. If not... what IS this exile?!

The story of Sultan Beyazid taking in the expelled Jews of Spain in 1492 following the Alhambra Decree is well known but that was only part of the influx into the Jewish community within the empire & a significant population had been present in Constantinople prior to 1453.
Among Sultan Mehmed's early reforms was the creation of the Hakham Bashi /Hahambaşı to oversee the Jewish community. In a similar way to using the Patriarch to run the Rum community. It was an office which has had a continuous line ever since.
