Someone from my past just resurfaced. Said he didn’t find me on “FB”so he got my number from an old classmate.

Why people can’t leave the past behind and move on with life will always befuddle me.

This same uncle that I dodged all through Uni because of his wickedness.

We shall name this uncle Abetiaja, Abeti for short.

It was when I was in 100 level first semester in the university, I can’t recollect how Abeti began to ask me out but he went all out. One day, I was alone at home, my two roomies, Lola and Tolu had travelled to Lagos.
As a 100L student that was being actively courted by a 400-level student, I kinda felt special. Plus, Abeti had a car. If you ever studied at Olabisi Onabanjo University, you’d understand the importance of knowing at least one person who drove a car in school.
Abeti came to visit me, to be fair, not unannounced. He brought food and Zobo for me and a small flask of alcohol for him. We settled in to have small talk.

You already know what’s going to happen next, I’ll tell you anyway.

“When will Lola and Tolu get back from Lagos?”
Abeti asked me. “I don’t know, they didn’t say” I shrugged and continue to sip on my zobo.

Abeti moved closer to me, managed to put his arm around me and whispered in my ear, “When are you going to let me in now ehn?”

I shrugged his arm off, moved away from him and asked him,
“Why do you have to whisper in my ear when it’s just two of us in this room? Which one is ‘when will I enter?’ Enter where? Please stop talking like that I don’t like it.”

I’ve never been a fan of ear whispering, it irritates me to no end.

He moved closer, closing the gap.
“Ife please now, I know you said you’re a virgin. Just let me put it in, if you don’t like it I’ll remove it”

Ahhhhhhhhhh! Oluwa oooooo. It was at this point that I knew that the heart of man is wicked. Abeti said it with his chest that if I don’t like it he’ll remove it.
I hurriedly got up from the bed and rushed outside. My neighbour, Akin was in the compound so I stood beside him, holding on to him for dear life.

“What’s wrong Ife?” Akin asked me, looking behind him to see what pursued me.

“Abeti said he wants to put it inside for testing”
I wasn’t joking and till date, I can’t comprehend how Akin knew exactly what I referred.

Akin chuckled, walked to my door and I could hear him clearly from where I stood, “Bros, the girl dey fear you, come dey go abeg. Abeg.”

As Abeti walked out of my room, I ducked behind
Akin and stayed put until the dust behind his car cleared.

I looked at Akin again and said “He said he wants to put it inside that if I don’t like it he’ll remove it. Ah! Akin, what kind of human being would say that?”

Akin bent over and laughed so hard, I saw him tear up.
This was 2001.

Abeti is now looking for me.

Let me call you back Abeti, I’m not arand!
