“831, you beat someone to death. 721, you disappeared.” Protesters are condemning police beating people up on August 31 while on 721 when triads beat up passengers, police were nowhere to be found.
“Killers, rapists.” These are two of the common accusations against the police.
Amid a sea of US flags, there is one lone German flag held by Carlos from Germany. He thinks Angela Merkel should use her time in #China to voice more concrete support for #HK.
Another girl leading the crowd’s chants. Almost at every peaceful rally or gathering in #HK these days, you can see young citizens being actively engaged in the ongoing #antiELABhk movement.
Like others have reported, HK MTR announcing that because of a serious incident, they have to close down Central Station. Lots of riot police guarding each exit.
I’m at the main entrance where a group of protesters are angrily yelling at the police, telling them they just wanna go home while the police closed off the entrance and kept saying please cooperate and leave. “Please take care of your personal safety.”
Protesters have since retreated and some frontline protesters moved a few metal barricades from the side of the road and used plastic cable ties to form a makeshift barricade, blocking off the entrance. #antiELABhk
Here is the voluntary team in action. Earlier, when I came back from a water break, all protesters were yelling and waving towards the direction, asking me to head to the exit to cover the ongoing development. Many were applauding and shouting add oil while I was heading over.
And this is not the first time but many Hong Kongers have been handing me snacks or water when I was out covering protests. Such is the class and quality of HK protesters. #antiELABhk
Frontline protesters are now using metal rods they took off from the side of the road to break open the closed entrance.
This is the moment when a group of frontline protesters head over to exit D1 of Central Station and they seemed to be using extra fences and materials to prevent the police from coming out. There was a momentary scare that everyone thought the police were gonna fire something.
This is how the barricaded entrance looks like. So apparently there were still some police inside Central and the protesters want to prevent them from coming out onto the street. Some kind of self-protection mechanism. #antiELABhk
Protesters continue to dig up bricks from the side of the road and breaking bigger ones into smaller pieces. #antiELABhk
Amid the chaos, I spotted this very powerful slogans on the floor - it basically says that since #China has now violated its promise for One Country, Two Systems, it is time for people to self-rule from the street. #antiELABhk
Frontline protesters forming a road block in Central. Not sure if they are anticipating riot police to show up later or what. Some older bystanders are shouting from the footbridge, telling them to take care of themselves. “保重自己呀,” they said.
Major fire set up at one MTR Exit in Central, but the fire truck got to the place in time to put off the fire. Unsure if riot police are now nearby or not. #AntiExtraditionBill
This is how big the fire was before fire trucks arrived. Thick black smoke billowing up.
Like I have thought, large groups of riot police are now emerging from the exits and hunting for protesters.
They are now wondering where have the protesters went.
Like water, protesters show up and vanish, giving the police real headache.
Look at the gears they brought. They were ready for a showdown but there is no one waiting for them. #BeWater #AntiExtraditionBill
The riot police are now leaving Central, empty-handed. #AntiExtraditionBill
Further down on another narrower street, riot police block it off for the press. There was an entrance that looks like it leads to an underground parking lot. #antiELAB
We’ve been here for the last 20 minutes and throughout the time, several local bystanders have complained about why they blocked off the road for so long. They used strong light to target whoever that’s criticizing them or confronting them. #antiELABhk
As the raptors leave the scene, protesters were angrily accusing them as “dark police,” “dark society,” and shouting angrily at them.
From this vague video, you can see a group of protesters apparently being rounded up by the police. They sat on the ground and had their hands on their head. #antiELABhk
Not sure what’s the actual number, but there is certainly a group that has been arrested, including someone with a vest.
These two ladies have been condemning police over the last 30 minutes, accusing police for not having any conscience and saying that if they knew Hong Kong will became like this 20 years ago, they would have gone to Taiwan.
“When a mainlander like me is also against the extradition bill, you should know how scary the bill is. Why are you still collided with the Chinese police?”
At least two people wearing neon yellow vests have been arrested in Central, along with a small group of other protesters.
