This analysis gets everything about the Dems almost completely wrong. Most of the Dem field agrees on most everything. The views of almost all of them are consistent with most Dem views from the New Deal onward. The outlier is Biden.
He is a vestige of the post-Clinton era Dem center that emerged as a capitulation to Reaganism. It accepts corporate objectives and economic darwinism at the expense of vast swaths of the US population--it collaborated on creating today's gross inequality in America.
The views of @ewarren are hardly radical. On virtually every issue they are supported by substantial majorities of Americans. They reflect the traditional desire of Americans for equal opportunity and basic human dignity. Painting them as extreme is pure GOP posturing.
Biden's only chance to win is if he can convince the party that tacking right is the only way to win (as opposed to mobilizing Dems and seizing up the unprecedented disaffection that exists for this president). He is selling this argument that the bulk of Dems are too radical.
Just think of it--the argument here is that only Biden is sensible and all these other Dems from everywhere across the party spectrum are not, that every other candidate other than he--of another era, with another worldview--doesn't get it. It's ludicrous on its face.
Focus instead on the growing consensus among Dems including Biden--that the Dem agenda will be for healthcare for all (one way or another), protecting the environment, sensible gun policy, fighting DC corruption, combatting inequality, creating opportunity.
That is the real story here. Not that Biden is somehow the only enlightened unicorn in the Dem race because he is the one most acceptable to the GOP, Wall Street and corporate America.
