She’s lying. Look at the smile she gives, meant to manipulate the person you’re lying to. It communicates “you believe me, right?” I used to write for NYT, every single word added and cut by an editor MUST be approved by the journalist. It was a meticulous, irritating process.
I’d be on the phone with an editor at 11pm re: a fluff piece where he wanted to change an adjective I used. Another example, “can we remove the word ‘historic?’ Although the building’s 200 years old it’s not on the national historic registry.” She’s lying. It was intentional.
Six seconds in, when she says “They took out the whole sentence.” Her smile is classic deception, it communicates, “you’re buying this, right? We’re on the same page?”
When people are speaking frankly about the truth, and honestly defending themselves, they don’t do that. They’re more in battle mode.
She’s asking permission with facial cues to continue her lie. People defending their name and reputation don’t do that. And knowing what the culture of the Times is like, it’s all bullshit.
