Note that under the current draft of the State aid rules after a crash out Brexit, @CMAgovUK will need to clear almost all of these bailouts and subsidies.
Emphasis, though, on the adjective “current”. The Johnson government has not confirmed the current draft.
And, unlike May, it is seeking to avoid level playing field commitments such as State aid (though the deal that will have to be done after a crash out Brexit will include them).

Many reasons why it’s not good at all. But the narrow legal one is that the last 45 seconds of this extraordinary scene is - and I don’t say this sort of thing lightly - a straightforward and blatant lie by Johnson.
The Benn Act does not give the EU the power to decide how long the extension is. The House of Commons remains in control.
As to the rest of this vile and deeply shocking performance by Johnson, I cannot hope to improve on @stephenkb.

A reminder that, apart from the US, there are many other democracies with a Supreme Court charged with defending the constitution and human rights.
Try Ireland, for a start. Or Germany. Or France. Or, if you insist on crossing the Atlantic, Canada.
The ignorance of so many U.K. politicians of any foreign political system apart from the US is a really serious problem.

I don’t think @peston is right to say that the Supreme Court would be back in action. This is not a hard question of law: the Government can’t in a second letter try to undo the effect of the first. No court would construe the Benn Act as permitting that “clever” wheeze.
It would be a couple of hours in the High Court; prohibition or quashing order; permission to appeal refused. That is, if Johnson is still helplessly clinging on as PM by that point.
Basic rule of law: “clever” wheezes designed to get round what the statute clearly intended don’t work.

I live in France, but have children & grandchildren in the UK. This last week or so I’ve experience waves of terror sweep over me, more than once at the prospect of a disorderly, crash-out #Brexit. Not because of scare stories... 1
... or project fear, but because Brits don’t get how vulnerable you are to disruption of goods and supplies from the rest of the world. No one wishes the UK I’ll, but we live in a rules-based world, where trade is regulated by treaties and agreements. Choose to.../2
disregard those and there will be disruption to essential supplies. From that point on the story is a familiar one. It involves disorder, looting, gangs, threats, burglary, violence and fear. So forgive me if I have no time for what 52% voted for in a rigged, dishonest.../3

This comment appeared in a scoop on Len McCluskey, and it helps explain what's really happening in Labour on #Brexit
2) In this, a senior Labour figure, Len McCluskey, talks about "legitimate concerns" on immigration and "exploitation" of those people, then goes on to give examples of wage impacts
Yes, he wants to end exploitation by taking away the agency of the exploited
3) the logic goes "immigrants are being exploited, so lets deal with that not by tackling the exploiters, but by locking the victims in their own country"

This is a professed socialist speaking

It's also part of the reason why Brexit is still alive - Corbyn wants to end FoM

1. There's a subtle shift in tone from the ultras this morning who are now pushing for a Canada+ agreement. That + is going to have to do a lot of work because we'd still be subject to third country controls thus having a similarly damaging effect to no deal #Brexit.
2. Again the Brexiters are ducking the issue that to have frictionless trade you need full regulatory harmonisation. If we don't have that then Mrs May will have to sign the NI backstop. Chequers is an attempt to fudge this question but it is at least a nod to reality.
3. Mrs May has attempted to bridge the unbridgeable divide. Chequers is an attempt at regulatory alignment while maintaining a level of regulatory sovereignty - which is tolerable but not to the EU. They won't go for it.
