1. A short thread, with some (unasked for but I hope not unwelcome) advice to @SpeakerPelosi and @RepAdamSchiff.

@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff 2. WE NEED TO SEE THE TRANSCRIPT. Thursday's hearing will focus to a degree on the whistleblower issue. But it's the presidential conversation that really matters. Spend this week explaining the gravity of what Trump seems to have done, not the intricacies of whistleblower law.

@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff 3. BE READY TO ACT ON THURSDAY. If (when?) it becomes clear that Acting DNI Maguire is under orders not to cooperate, the Speaker should immediately announce a select committee, or charge an existing committee, with the urgent task of discovering the truth.

@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff 4. OBSTRUCTION IS IMPEACHABLE. The Speaker should make clear on Thursday that the president's obstructing the ability of Congress to discover the truth in this important matter is itself an impeachable offense.

@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff 5. COUNTRY FIRST. The Speaker should appeal to past and present members of the executive branch who have knowledge to come forward--whatever the White House says--for the sake of the country. It would be useful if former senior officials of both parties would endorse this effort.

@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff 6. COUNTRY FIRST (cont.). The Speaker should appeal to Republicans in Congress to work with Democrats. She might invite a Republican (Will Hurd?) to co-chair the special committee (if there is one), or ensure that a Republican serves as a special co-counsel to the committee.
