2/ As of 2016 (this won't have changed much since), only 1.2 million families in the U.S. have a family member who receives TANF (AFDC) and for over half of these, only a child or children are receiving benefits, w/no additional allotment for parent or parents in the home...
3/ In all, only 2.7 million persons are receiving TANF benefits (about 0.8 percent of the population), over three-quarters of whom are kids. Only around 637,000 adults in the entire United States receive cash welfare benefits...
4/ Racially, 31% of adult TANF recipients are black, meaning fewer than 200,000 black adults in entire nation receive cash welfare. In a society w/ approximately 30 million black adults in all, this means fewer than 0.7% of black adults in the country are cash recipients...
5/ To visualize this stat, imagine 10,000 randomly selected black adults brought together in a large arena. Now ask yourself, how many do you figure are receiving cash welfare from the government? Imagine asking your friends, your parents, or your FOX-news loving uncle...
6/ While most would likely guess 1/2 or 1/3 (between, say, 3000-5000), the correct answer is fewer than 70. If people's lives depended on answering that question with an accuracy level even w/in a factor of 20, there wouldn't be enuf folk left to bury the ones who didn't make it.
