Mining TikTok for the sole purpose of seeing inside a police state is an unorthodox use of the app. Once activists got inside the firewall to access TikTok, they then have to “teach” the app’s algorithm to show them videos they want to see. “You have to train it in a certain way”

I thought it was interesting and ironic that while the international version of TicTok is recently accused of censorship, it is the tightly controlled domestic version of the app that is used to spread information that the gov’t doesn’t want us to see in the form of viral videos.
