1st big conference speech by any new(ish) party leader is always a big occasion, but today is massive because Johnson using the platform to make his bid to the EU
We haven't seen final detail, and push back from No 10 at the Teleg's scoop on the plan - but seems a hybrid of a lot of the elements that have been around for the last while - at this stage doesn't seem that much of it is surprising
But,, it's a big question as to whether the combination of elements can get EU to the table in a meaningful way in next few days - David Frost, PM's EU negotiator in Brussels today
While Johnson on the platform at conference in few hours trying to put the political gloss on it all - 'no deal or this new deal' - which will go down a storm in the hall here no doubt where he is the darling, in the EU, and around the country maybe not so much
Only a tiny number of officials and ministers know the full detail - and it's been striking talking to Cabinet ministers this week how much they differ on whether they reckon they will actually get a deal - they're all guessing (like the rest of us too)
Last thing for now - key for Number 10 is whether EU side hold back from rubbishing the ideas today, or give some kind of vague indications that they are willing to talk - PM might go to Brussels later in the week, if there is a deal to be done
