Nintendo Japan's Indie World team interviewed creator Makoto Wada of Ancient corp. about Susume!! Mamotte Knight🇯🇵
for the production of Mamotte Knigt's dot art, Wada uses the 2D animation software he cooked up way back in 1997 it ensures a certain degree of authenticity to the art but he also has to worry about it breaking whenever there's a Windows update
some prototype images from the experimental stage of the first Mamotte Knight (Protect Me Knight); Wada's an artist by trade but he learned C from scratch at age 30 in order to make his own games, and he's responsible for pretty much every element of production aside from sound
Susume!! Mamotte Knight is the first entry with online multiplayer & the co-operative elements were directly inspired by Splatoon 2's Salmon Run—broadly, by the way it challenges players to most efficiently play a specific role, but also in regards to round length, dynamism, etc
there's also a little info on the new game Ancient announced next year, a strategic RPG for Switch called Ouritsu Anapoko Gakuen—Wada doesn't give much away but he wants to create something original while retaining the charm of a classic RPG
