MDN is the only NGO that works as an HRD on the most sensitive HR issues in Maldives.
The govt has succumbed to the pressure from local terrorists - much of those are allegedly revealed in the controversial report.

The #Maldives govt has failed to take action against those who spread hate and threaten people behind a religious facade.
"The maintenance of public order and communal harmony"... what a load of crap!

The govt has effectively #empowered the #terrorists by banning the only HRD NGO who dared assess the rising #extremism and #radicalism in #Maldives.
Now the terrorists are attacking whoever who recognised the NGO's sincere work since 2004.

The Maldives President seems only interested in maintaining his position than #consolidating #democracy in #Maldives.
So far the only thing he has done is allow incremental changes while he actively maintain the #statusquo with the support of ex-dictator MAG & his crony Gasim.

The govt's decision to ban NGO came late Thursday to save 4 days before they respond to the international community.
Friday&Saturday are local holidays. Saturday&Sunday are weekend abroad.
Since 7Feb coup #Maldives #SupremeCourt also announced major decisions late Thursday.

Except for a few HRD in #Maldives, all are quiet on the government's decision to ban local NGO - MDN.

The #Maldives Human Rights Commission has not said anything.

It indicates the level of fear created in the country by the govt, the terrorists & those sympathetic toward them.

The govt has banned the only NGO who responded to serious concerns on rising extremism&terrorism in #Maldives.
Clearly, if Maldives media has the capacity to perform as one than act like cheap propaganda outlets, the govt would have severely restricted FoE/press freedom long ago!

The sermon prepared by the Islamic Ministry and delivered at the Friday prayers today, is very provocative against #MDN and those who appreciate MDN's work.
The Islamic Minister belongs to Adhalath Party - member of the constitutionally unrecognised coalition governing #Maldives.
