For intangible asset driven firms who require little or no capital to grow, what is the best modern equivalent to book value (ie a static financial metric to contrast vs market value)?
we're thinking the ~same things

eg replacement cost = (annual R&D * 5 years) + (annual customer acquisition costs / (1/customer life) )
tangible asset driven co vs intangible asset driven co

depreciated capex vs capitalized R&D = PP&E

Brand value from acquisitions vs capitalized customer acquisition = goodwill

then add NWC

Datacenters use 80x more water than a hospital; water is a recurring & critical cost of doing business. Potentially large & fast growing end market for water efficiency where customers are not price sensitive.

In West Africa entire towns are built without a scrap of wood or cement, completely carbon neutral using only local materials, creating homes that can function without any grid. The technique is known as Nubian Vaulting: adobe bricks with mud mortar, thick walls, barrel vault.
The only ingredients are mud and water, materials and labor can be sourced in locally and training is simple. The low cost (only labor) means that even the poorest people can afford it.
The technique works for all typer of homes and public buildings and can be easily adapted to any size. Here is a particularly impressive one in Senegal.

For a while the techie was semi-savvy to the digitally enhanced world, understood it. But today's hybrid world's impervious to everyone's comprehension
I quite frequently talk about how we have fallen into a post enlightenment age. The digital world is all about us & so often resolutely beyond understanding. Closed data powering closed learning driving closed systems talking over closed protocols.
Until 1980 or thereabouts, humankind was getting better at understanding the world about them. Better microscopes, better macroscopes.

But it's all f-ed up now. Increasingly the individual has less and less ability to understand the basic material world they inhabit.
