Trump has been the first major party nominee in 30+ years not to release his taxes, and his fight to keep them private is at odds with his own thinking in '13/'14 that releasing them as part of a presidential bid would make him look like a smart businessman.
There is much speculation on why Trump hasn't released his taxes. Some Trump critics believe they could reveal long-denied ties to foreign interests or show embarrassingly small charitable donations. Others say a public airing might prove that he isn't as rich as he claims to be.
It's this last reason that is closest to the truth, former Trump political adviser Sam Nunberg told @CNN. Nunberg believes Trump's real motivation for not releasing his taxes is a simple matter of vanity: "He wanted to look rich rather than smart."
