Obama was also chafing under the old system of alliances. But he could withdraw from Iraq or deprecate NATO without the press calling it what it was. With Trump these are belatedly recognized.

The Trump era is in some ways the Age of Belated Admission. He can be conveniently blamed for everything that was kicked down the road by the Republidems these last 10 years.
Love him or hate him he has allowed the golf game to continue from where the ball actually lies rather than from where we politely pretend it does.
