The more radical a Jain is,the less harmful he is to society & the environment.This is a picture of a radical muni. This muni is so radical in his belief,that he covers his mouth to kill less micro-organisms,this also requires him to speak less or say only what needs to be said. 
Their idea of sacrifice is not by sacrificing goats or bulls or in some radical cases even people, but rather sacrificing their own body.Muslims also do practice extreme non-violence and also dress and get a haircut similar to Jains at 2 occasions, namely Umrah and Hajj.
Muslims are also forbidden to even kill an insect while Hajj/Umrah is ongoing, and yes that is the only time a Muslim can claim that yeah, we are peaceful. Jains don't need to convince anyone they are the religion of peace, its obvious.
However, it is totally fine that Islam is not like Jainism and is not the religion of peace, it never was and does not need to be, most other religions aren’t. No Muslim ever claimed before 9/11 that ‘Islam is a religion of peace’.
One does not need to convince anyone that Islam is the religion of peace, it never was and never will be. The very rise of Islam started first with defensive wars which later turned into offensive ones during the time of Umayyads and Abbassids.
Muhammed’s own grandson and his extended family were killed in the battle of Karbala because Islam was not the religion of peace even in those times.
The choice is with us, is our jihad against the evils within ourselves, or is it against innocent people who believe in something that we don't? My best advice is, do what you feel is best for you and your family ethically and morally.
