Today, I'm not feeling very generous towards the police. My car was hit by a $60,000 pickup truck, who then fled the scene after getting out to look at the damages. Since there were no injuries, police told me they won't file charges unless I find the person. They aren't looking.
So I got up early and have been going to body shops in the area passing out fliers asking them to call the police if this truck appears in their shop.
I have about 5 more to visit, then I have to go to a local chiropractic center that told the police they can't give them the name of the truck passenger because of privacy laws. Apparently, neither they nor the police know HIPAA laws. 
Now I am even more angry. The chiropractor center told me they did provide the officer with a list of name and addresses of people who were at their location in that time frame. So the police officer lied to me.
So I drove to the police department and find the door locked at 11:00 am. I had to call the 911 center and give my name, rank & serial number so they could call the police department and have someone let me in.
Police officer who came to the scene was not there, so I told another officer what was going on. I didn't mince words. Told him the other officer told me he could not get names from the chiropractor because of privacy, but the chiropractor told me they gave him a list of names.
Also gave him a copy of the flyer I passed out to all the body shops, as well as a list of names of the body shops I visited.
