Individual racism: When black & white men tried to cross the street in Portland, black men had to wait >30% longer as 2x as many cars passed them by compared to white men.

Institutional racism: Black ppl have to wait longer to vote (almost 2x as long as white ppl).

Racial inequities are not acts of God. They are not random. They are the result of racism—the outcomes are exactly what the system was designed to produce.

Are things getting better over time, you ask? There has been NO decline in discrimination seen in audit studies in the US over the past 25 years.

Discrimination doesn’t just affect opportunities and career trajectories. It also is associated with negative health consequences (see slide).

The Devine solution showed that counter-stereotyping, individuation, perspective-taking, and stereotype replacement had durable effects on implicit bias.
