THREAD: You wait ages for Bristol South to have a Brexit Party candidate & two come along at once.
Firstly, here's @rdevitoboutin announcing he's been selected to be the Parliamentary Candidate for Bristol South
Until yesterday, he was a candidate in Cornwall.
#GeneralElection19
@rdevitoboutin But @NeilPpc Neil Hipkiss also believes himself to be the Brexit Party candidate for Bristol South.
#GeneralElection19
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc Is anyone else planning on being the Brexit Party candidate in Bristol South?
Let me know.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc Interestingly, when m'colleague @journoamrogers compiled her list (published here), the Brexit Party told her Neil Hipkiss was their candidate in Bristol East.
bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-n…
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers However, someone else (Tim Page) is claiming to be the Brexit Party candidate in Bristol East, & they've just opened their own Twitter account for this: @BrizzleTim
#GeneralElection2019 #GeneralElection19 #Bristol
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim But back to Bristol South, and there's a twist to the twist.
In @journoamrogers article there was someone else listed by the Brexit Party for Bristol South.
Scott Adams.
He doesn't appear to have a Bristol South Brexit Party Twitter account as yet.
bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-n…
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim So I think we have *checks notes* FOUR men who are all either claiming on Twitter to be/have been named to
@journoamrogers as the Brexit Party candidate in two Bristol seats (South & East)
Nominations have to be in on Thursday. Remember this is to become an MP & run the country.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim That's FOUR men
Three in Bristol South
Two in Bristol East
Including one who has been named by the Brexit Party as standing in one, and announced himself he's standing in the other.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim OK, update.
It appears that the muddle can be slightly cleared.
Bristol South was originally Neil Hipkiss (his Bristol East listing was erroneous).
Scott Adams was originally Bristol East (his Bristol South listing was an error).
However, we still have 4 candidates for 2 seats
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim So, a summary.
At the start of this week, Brexit Party said:
Bristol South - Neil Hipkiss
Bristol East- Scott Adams
After the Farage announcement, 2 more candidates self-announced:
Bristol South- Robert de Vito Boutin (from Cornwall)
Bristol East- Tim Page
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim Update - it seems it's all about finding 10 people to sign the nomination papers.
I've just had sight of an email from one of our 4 hopefuls out to a Brexit Party mailing list, asking for signatures for the nomination form.
#GeneralElection2019
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim "This is all a bit mad," begins Tim Page in this email, asking for nominations so he can stand as Brexit Party candidate in Bristol East.
"I was until yesterday campaigning full on in North Dorset.
"Unfortunately, I'm not now able to fight the most treacherous Tory remainer there
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim ...but instead they've sent me here to help you fight a Labour one".
(Narrator: He's referring to @KerryMP there.)
Mr Page later adds: "Help! I'm in the constituency today and need 10 signatures on my nomination forms to get me into the race."
#GeneralElection2019
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP "I want to worry and beat anti-democratic remoaners of whatever hue - 2nd reffers, revokers and disloyal 'not to no deal' underminers. Clean break Brexit is the only true way to leave the EU," he added.
#GeneralElection2019
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP That's all fine and hunky and dory, but yesterday, the Brexit Party announced that a man called Scott Adams was their candidate in Bristol East.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP Does Scott Adams have 10 people signed up on his nomination form?
Has he already submitted his papers?
Can the same people sign two different candidates' forms?
What if the Brexit Party end up with two candidates?
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP UPDATE:
Back to #BristolSouth where Robert de Vito Boutin, formerly of 3 different constituencies in Cornwall, has staked his claim firmly to be Bristol South's Brexit Party candidate.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP In doing so, Robert has also moved Neil Hipkiss to Bristol West.
Two things about that tho.
Firstly, Neil's Twitter still proudly says Bristol South.
Secondly & perhaps more importantly, yesterday the Brexit Party told us its Bristol West candidate was Gbade Adetona.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP Just had an actual email from Brexit Party HQ.
It confirms:
#BristolSouth= @rdevitoboutin
#BristolEast= @BrizzleTim Page

It does not confirm #BristolWest, which appears now to be a straight contest between Neil Hipkiss (latterly of BristolSouth) and Gbade Adetona.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP I specifically asked the Brexit Party Limited who the candidates were in all 4 Bristol seats, incl. #BristolWest but was only confirmed East and South
So perhaps West is being decided right now.
Gbade's name means 'wind' in the Fon language of Benin, which is lovely.
#Pray4Gbade
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP So we are now into Day 2 of the Who Will Be The Brexit Party Candidates in Bristol thriller.
It will be the final day, as today's the deadline for submitting nomination papers.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP As it stands we have:
1 candidate in Bristol East, who came from Dorset on Tues pushing out another candidate who has disappeared
1 candidate in Bristol South, who came from Cornwall on Tues, pushing Monday's candidate to Bristol West
And now 2 declared candidates in Bristol West
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP I say that last tweet with less confidence than it looks when written down, tbh
I am still waiting to hear back from The Brexit Party Limited on Bristol West and Bristol North West
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP It's also worth mentioning that The Brexit Party Ltd say @NeilPpc is its candidate in Bristol West, but his Twitter profile still maintains he's the candidate in Bristol South
The man the Brexit Party says is the South candidate agrees with the party that Neil is for Bristol West
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP To be fair, Twitter profiles are devilishly tricky to edit, and candidates will have been busy yesterday getting nomination signatures, agreeing which seats they are standing in and familiarising themselves with the city.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP No wait.... this tweet here is wrong.
The Brexit Party Limited have not, repeat NOT, yet confirmed Neil Hipkiss is the Brexit Party candidate in Bristol West.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP The last word we had from The Brexit Party Limited was that Gdabe Adetona was its man in Bristol West.
That was on Monday afternoon. But as we've seen, a lot has changed since then.
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP Since Mon afternoon, Tim Page beat Scott Adams to win the Brexit Party candidacy for Bristol East
And Robert de Vito Boutin beat Neil Hipkiss to win the Brexit Party candidacy for Bristol South
Neil seems to have gone into some kind of play-off with Gdabe Adetona for Bristol West
@rdevitoboutin @NeilPpc @journoamrogers @BrizzleTim @KerryMP I really want to know how these things were won.
Rock paper scissors?
Drawing lots?
A quiz?
Did Nigel Farage decide it?
Update.
As the wise @GreenBrizzle points out, the nominations deadline is actually Thursday and I don’t know what day it is.
There’s STILL TIME for more twists and turns, and to confirm who all 4 candidates are.
Today, the Brexit Party Ltd continued to not say who their candidate in Bristol West is.
But, there is a breakthrough.....
For, after days of being Twitter’s South Bristol Brexit Party candidate, even in the face of another Twitter account saying the same thing, finally @NeilPpc has CHANGED HIS TWITTER PROFILE.
Well, the name at least.... the bio still says South
Honestly I am not making this up...
Earlier today, Neil thanked supporters in #BristolSouth as he sort of announced he was moving to #BristolWest
He’d been the candidate south of the river for two and a half days.
Are you all still following?
If so, there’s one man you should be worried about.
Yes. What has happened to Gbade Adetona?
He appears to have become collateral damage as candidates from *checks notes* Dorset & Cornwall moved in to neighbouring Bristol constituencies.
What’s most perplexing about this is that Bristol West is one of the most interesting seats in the country, being Britain’s only FOUR-WAY MARGINAL.
(*until 2017).
And the MOST REMAINY constituency in the UK
The Tories came 2nd in 2017.
Yes the Tories increased their vote by 125 people between 2015 & 2017 but jumped from 4th to 2nd.
This was because the Lib Dem & Green vote collapsed as @ThangamMP increased her majority for Labour by SEVEN times.
She’s got one of the biggest majorities in the country.
But the key thing about #BristolWest is that it’s 1 of the more controversial seats for the #UniteToRemain pact, with LibDems stepping down for Greens @carla_denyer
So even tho Tories are technically 2nd, & even tho there’s already 1 pact, Brexit Party Ltd are standing
Just seen that Wikipedia still has Gbade as the Brexit Party candidate for #BristolWest
There’s still hope for him.
Anyway. Those pining for updates tonight will be disappointed.
There’s more important things in the West Country happening right now...
