THERE IS NO QUICK FIX FOR VETERAN HOMELESSNESS!
Female veteran was evicted from her apartment after her husband (also military) abandoned her & their 3 children.

Sgt w/ almost 8 yrs of service & 3 children were evicted by the Sept 6, 2017.

@DakotaCountyMN
For 8 days she lived in her car with her 7 month old daughter, 2 yr old and 4 yr old sons. @dakotacounty @brknews_msp
This female veteran and 3 children were placed at Dakota Woodlands in Eagen on Sept 19, 2017. All 3 children have illinesses. @NewsMpls @minneapolis_mn @DAVHQ
Multiple medical letters directed to Dakota County about the health, diets & safety of the children were submitted & recognized pressure was shifted to CDA to work on obtaining housing. (3 times ambulances were called to take one or more to the hospital) dakotacda.org
On Oct 30, 2017 this veteran and her family were moved to the Extended Stay Hotel in Eagen whilst Dakota County CDA assisted the Social Service contact in Dakota Cty. @NewspMN @mnlocalnews @codeofvets @jencovmedia
Nov 31 2107 this family was once again in crisis. One son had been hospitalized and on oxygen and her daughter had pnueumonia and difficulty in breathing. Social Service case manager arranged for a "different" room. @MinneapolisMN @DakotaCountyMN @NewsMinneapolis
By this point these 3 ambulances from shelter to ER, 2 ambulance calls from car, 3 ambulances from pre-school,  2 ambulances from hotel to ER, 6 and one five day  hospitalization on oxygen and a baby with pnuemonia. @TalkMinneapolis @newsminneapoli1
Several pediatrician visits for a variety of issues to include siezures, croup 2 times, obstructive laryngitis, sleep disorders, chronic sinsisitis, respitory infections and more. @VFWHQ @VVAmerica
@VFWHQ @VVAmerica At some point the vet became connected with avivomn.org see the attached avivomn.org/wp-content/upl… This vet was assigned a case manager who was working with CDA to step up the pace and find a place for this family to minimize health and safety issue.
Dakota County Social Services & its case manager Lisa Holliday persisted and were able to get this vet a voucher and inspect the townhome via CDA. @DarlaShine @TJHproject @AmVets @MNNationalGuard @FoxNews #minneapolis #Minneapolis
Jan 1, 2018 AFTER 105 DAYS OF HOMELESSNESS FOR THIS VET AND HER FAMILY CAME TO AN END. Jan 1, 2018. dakotacda.org provided a voucher.
THIS IS NOT THE END OF THIS COMBAT VETS HOMELESSNESS.
This very same veteran is FACING HOMELESSNESS IN 48 DAYS.
The lease is up. CDA says they will not count any child support. (she hasnt had any yet and for the first time it is in the court system just has not been paid due to the childrens dads employer NOT returning the paperwork)
The entity 501(c) 3 has been paying rent avivomn.org & case manager assigned informed CDA they wern't going to assist. CDA sent a letter to the owner of the property stating that the % are off and unless he decreased the rent, the family would'nt be staying.
IF avivomn.org a not for profit and dakotacda.org do not come to some sort of agreement, these 2 systems will be forcing this Veteran and her 3 children HOMELESS AGAIN. @KSTP @S58806255 @WCCO @WCCOBreaking @wccoradio @kare11news @kare11
It gets better. CDA was providing this family of 4 $110 a month. This was to pay utilities. This vet has tried to live off of EBT and $110 because as of this minute the county has yet to obtain any child support. (it is pending via courts)
Dakota Electric has approved both cold weather & medical so as not to disconnect the power. It has continued to show her usage & the balance is building. @DakotaCountyMN The Department of Economic Assistance  and a newer employee didn't understand the "policy" of offering a grant
@DakotaCountyMN The avivomn.org case manager told our vet to apply for a grant w/ Department of Economic Assistance. The grant was to take care of $1800 and initially she was told it was approved. Later contacted stating she was new and didnt understand the program. Grant was denied.
We get to all of this, all of these entities have their own policies. CDA has their policies, Avivomn has its policies, Dakota County and Dept of Economic Assistance has its policies. I believe its time.
I WOULD LIKE A POLICY THAT ADDRESSES VETERAN HOMELESSNESS. THE POLICY IS EVERY VETEREAN IS TAKEN CARE OF. Everyday is veterans day and BTW NOT ALL VETS HAVE MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES OR ARE ADDICTED TO OPIOIDS. @codeofvets
