I just wrote a long thread 📌about the cost of being #disabled ♿ and/or chronically ill🏥 in America & my hand went spastic & deleted it & honestly that is the perfect coda.

I so desperately want to be able to get out of my house to go somewhere other than the hospital.

I have needed a wheelchair lift and an automatic wheelchair since I was paralyzed. Despite the exorbitant premiums charged by my health insurance company, which is one of the largest in the country so I know they can afford it, they don't provide such things.

It is frankly driving me mad to be trapped inside all the time with the same view and never to be able to have a break from that. The nurse practitioner comes to the house, as does the nurse navigator. I am fighting to get the physical therapist back. It's just so arduous.

Trump has targeted #disabled people for the entirety of his presidency--and before.

When Trump mimicked #disabled reporter Serge Kovaleski, he not only didn't apologize, he doubled down.
It's essential that EVERY candidate call out members of her or his audience who uses this language. And do NOT use it or other words like it on here. They will--and should--get you locked or suspended. We have other words to describe Trump that don't harm disabled & I/DD people.

Contacted by older man who was refused Tx from DLA to PIP and had his ESA stopped as deemed fit to work after medical. Diabetic. Very advanced nerve damage & severe circulatory problems. Client woke up 9 days after refusal and 2 of his toes had fallen off inside his bed socks... WARNING - This thread contains material which may not be suitable for everyone. Please exercise care.
His toes fell onto the floor. The circulation to those toes were so severely compromised, doctors had said they felt amputation would be the only option. Not that it was needed in the end as they had autoamputated...
Now working on appeal. People's lives are being SEVERELY blighted by the #DWP and this cruel and punishing Tory govt. Austerity was a choice to appeal to Tory heartlands. Many disabled and chronically ill people feel like they have a target on their back...

This thread 👇 there have been some valid criticisms of the #MillionsMissing campaign & it’s visuals that need to be thought carefully about, but the idea that the word ‘missing’ is somehow inappropriate or hyperbolic is just a huge slap in the face to patients
I have multiple overlapping disabilities, but the ‘missing’ thing for ME doesn’t just refer to the fact that a lack of energy on a cellular level can leave you absent from your own thoughts, your own *consciousness* even, for days/weeks/months at a time, as well as from society,
It refers to the fact that politically speaking, we are missing from all conversations. people get angry if we compare ME to MS because they think we’re playing suffering Olympics, but they don’t listen beyond that knee-jerk: it’s the *politics* we’re comparing

So since I was paralyzed I do my (limited) shopping online like many #disabled folks.

@OldNavy told me they'd send me an item that never made it into my order.

I said, "Please be sure you don't charge me a 2nd time."

Item just arrived.
Wrong size AND they charged me again.🤐
This may sound like first world problems, but for #disabled and/or chronically ill people who are unable to shop in brick and mortar stores--which I happen to LOVE--having online retailers like @OldNavy follow through for #disabled customers matters.

.@OldNavy I love your clothes and your sales and affordable prices, but this is a two-time error and will make it very difficult to return. Plus you charged me twice.

Please be more aware of #disabled customers who can't just walk into a store with a return.

I had another life-threatening heart/lung episode today.
I'm not sure how much of it had to do with my cutting my heart meds back to once a day while appealing the increased price by my health insurance from $120 for 60 pills to $1k for 60 pills.
We had to call 9/11.
Scary.

I couldn't afford to go to the hospital--when you call 9/11 the city charges you $1,200 for the trip to nearest hospital.
They only accept cash.
The EMTs checked me out, told me to take the heart meds the way they were prescribed, established I wasn't in VFib, just SVT AFib.
2/
So all day, instead of doing work that needs to be done, I have been trying to get my heart rate under 140, which given my lung meds increase my heart rate, has been more work: breathing exercises my PT taught me, single nostril breathing @HillaryClinton taught me (try it).
