In 2006 House reauthorized Voting Rights Act 390-33

Today only one House Republican (Brian Fitzpatrick) voted to restore the VRA

Very sad commentary on GOP
Voting Rights Advancement Act requires 11 states w/ recent history of voting discrimination to approve voting changes with federal government & all states to get approval for suppressive measures like voter ID laws & closing polling places
And I know new Voting Rights Act will never pass Senate with McConnell in charge, but Dems poised to pass very ambitious voting rights agenda if they win Senate & WH in 2020

Iowa caucus incredibly undemocratic:

-No absentee voting or secret ballot

-1000s with disabilities can’t participate

-40,000 with past felony convictions barred from voting

-Rural counties get more delegates than urban ones

This is not good way to choose party nominee
It’s great to see pics of packed caucus rooms but just imagine how many more people would be able to participate if Iowa had better voting laws
And remember Iowa is 90% white, disenfranchises 1 in 10 African-Americans because of felon disenfranchise law, has only 2 black mayors & has never elected a black or Latino statewide elected official

WH has placed some travel restrictions from China to the U.S, but more can be done.

The WH should consider a more expansive travel ban until the virus is contained.
Recently the WHO declared that the coronavirus is now a GLOBAL health emergency.

The virus has spread to at least 18 other countries.

The United States should strongly consider shutting down our borders until more is known about this virus.

#Breaking - Some defense sources report #Indian air strikes across the Line of Control in Muzafarabad, #Pakistan. Indian air force briefing expected later today. Pakistan said Indian jets dropped their payloads & "fled". More confirmation of details needed.
There are also reports of dual, air and ground Indian strikes in Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir. No official word yet. Waiting for updates. Stay tuned.
There are also reports that 2 Pakistani JF-17s fighter jets have been shot down.

THREAD: Ok- so they have the Senate, House, & Executive and #Kennedy just gave them the Judiciary for the next 30 years. Now what? In 2004 Obama said there was no Red or Blue America. He tried to govern that way. He lost. WE lost.
With #SCOTUS set to eviscerate civil rights, it will be all about the States. One set of restrictive laws for Red America and one set of progressive laws for Blue America. We tried to protect all Americans. They wouldn't let us. So now what?
If they plan to defund everything, let's outdo them. Let's vote to cut federal income taxes. They can cover only military. Divide Social security up by population and give it to the states. Let each state administer it. Same with Medicare & Medicaid.
