This election was a Brexit referendum. The Left ceded ground to Remain ‘centrists’, against Jeremy's own judgement. Jeremy has been proved right and we must continue on a path that serves working-class voters more effectively.
Labour is now the largest Party in Europe. That’s due to policy direction of Corbyn leadership & vision. The manifesto pledges were popular & desperately needed. But too many ‘centrist’ Labour MPs were focused on insisting on Remain position & ignoring Labour Brexit voters (cont)
The backlash we have seen is in reaction to that betrayal. I knocked on doors in every Midland Marginal and heard that directly from Labour voters. Over and over. If certain Labour MPs had united over delivering a ‘soft’ Brexit instead of undermining that
position the result would be very different. In fact they continued to argue that Labour should be only a Remain Party. If they had been listened to completely, we would have lost by even more - see Lib Dem result. But now these same MPs
who got the electorate wrong, weakened the Party & leadership with internal wrangling, are trying to shift blame away from themselves. They have let down all the people who desperately needed a Labour government. Same bunch who insisted on ‘austerity light’ instead of challenging
the failed economic model which caused the economic crash,will be doing the media rounds.They are now pushing a false narrative, to consolidate their position & weaken the Left. We must not allow that to happen.The membership must continue to speak up & hold the line.
Also, don’t expect these same Labour MPs to acknowledge the impact of the hysteria & lies of the Tory billionaire backers against Corbyn. Indeed many played a starring role in that. Which of course had an impact. So their handwringing & blaming Corbyn even more sickening.
But to all the brilliant volunteers - many who door knocked for the first time - thank you. Thank you for your generosity, your compassion, your desire to make a difference and to challenge the cruelty and division of the Tories...
Of course it’s a sad day. Of course it’s disappointing. But we always knew the field was not level. In fact that’s why so many of us took on the fight-to call out the skewed system which keeps so many down. So take pride you dared to fight and dream. And carry on doing just that.
Don’t forget you are not alone. There are millions of people who share how you feel and want a kinder, fairer society. They haven’t disappeared. They are still here. We are still here. And we have work to do 🌹💕🌻
