The series of revelations in the Telegraph about the licence given to Hamas to operate in Turkey, raises serious questions about Turkey's future relationship with western countries. Erdogan is also looking to destabilise Britain. Tucked away in the Telegraph is the revelation 1/2

1)Upcoming elections in #Turkey are extremely important as the process and outcome would push Turkey one step closer to a possible civil war in future. Elections will be held on Sunday with a newly introduced system allowing parties to form alliance for mayoral position. THREAD
2) So far and according to polling surveys, it is impossible to accurately predict the winner of the elections.
Erdogan's AKP and MHP have joint candidates in 51 cities. Their block is known as "Cumhur İttifakı (People's Alliance) and have the support of some small parties.
3) AKP-MHP block (People's Alliance) is known to progressive parties in Turkey as "Islamo-fascist block."

Main opposition party, @herkesicinCHP has formed an alliance with @iyiparti to have joint candidates in 51 cities. The block is known as Millet İttifakı(Nation Alliance).

President Erdogan threatened in an op-ed in the @nytimes that #Turkey "has alternatives" to its alliance with the US. He's wrong, but we should be very alarmed. Here's a brief primer on the history of the US-Turkey alliance, warts and all, and what's at stake. 1/24
The US-Turkey alliance is rooted in the Truman Doctrine backed by significant US military and development assistance in the late 1940s-1950s designed to keep Turkey out of the Soviet sphere, and enshrined by Turkey joining NATO in 1952 alongside Greece. 2/24
Put crudely, Turkey joined up with the US and NATO because of the centuries-old threat posed by the Russian (then Soviet) military and the need to keep economic and military parity with rival Greece. It wasn't out of admiration or shared values. 3/24

1. If you assert, as does this superficial analysis by @mehdirhasan, that the allegations of war crimes against President Assad are undeniably accurate simply based on their number and repetition, you're either incompetent, or a liar.

2. The article makes two critical errors of note. The first is to cite sources without investigation of their integrity & veracity. When writing on a conflict with perhaps the most heated propaganda war in history, this is either a failure in diligence, or a deliberate omission.
3. Given that there is a history and comprehensive body of evidenced work and analysis that raises serious questions and often provides refutations of the Western promoted narratives, it's inexcusable not to address the countervailing points in any serious treatment of the issue.
