FWIW I don’t hate Jeremy Corbyn, and I think most people who support him support him for the right reasons. I supported most of his domestic agenda, and I admired his courage and principle in saying he would not use nuclear weapons under any circumstances, but he didn’t explain
his position very well, as with so many issues, and he came across in interviews as thin-skinned, tetchy and defensive. His major failings were on Brexit, because we all knew that he was a lifelong opponent of the EU and his less than half-hearted support of Remain in the
Referendum was totally unconvincing. He refused to question the validity of the referendum, even when it became clear that Leave had engaged in serious illegality, and went AWOL for long periods from 2016-19. He totally ignored the overwhelming public support for a second
Referendum that saw multiple million+ marches on the streets of London, and talked absolute nonsense about a “jobs first” Brexit, when everyone knew any form of Brexit would destroy jobs. As Leader he was ineffectual and allowed dodgy wannabe revolutionaries like posh boy Milne
gain undue and undeserved influence over party policy and strategy - and we know how disastrously that ended. Corbyn failed to get a grip of the anti-semitism issue because he couldn’t bring himself to be be “disloyal” to his anti-Zionist fellow travellers in the party, and, true
to form, he couldn’t bring himself to say sorry. He was never leader material, and he knew that himself; he never expected to win in 2015 and when he did he didn’t know what to do with it. He was a principled, some would say dogmatic, serial rebel. A nice man, a kind man, a loyal
man, but not the leader Labour needed to defeat the forces of populism in the social media age.
