A new decade starts in less than 48 hours.

I did the math. By the end of this new decade, I'll have been out of the closet for almost as long as I was in the closet in my adult life. But not quite.

A difference of 16 days between the two. 16 days.

That's a sobering thought.
I wish I could adequately articulate why this is significant. Try to imagine all the learning, the lessons, the struggle, the heartbreak between ages 18 and 30. Most adults do that in their own authentic skin. Coming out is a whole relearning and mourning the time that's gone.
I do my best to avoid hovering over this kind of introspection. It's a bit unnecessary and doesn't lead to much healing. But I think pointing it out here is important to understand why validating trans kids, esp. teenagers, is critical. Don't force them to wait to start learning.
