THE IMPORTANCE ACQUIRING SKILLS IN THIS NEW AGE

Some years ago, I was introduced to Website Design by one of my friends who worked in a cyber cafe - that was around 2004/2005.

He gave me one of his resources which was about HTML. I photocopied it and started learning how...

...to write codes. As at then, I didn't have a computer at home. What I did was to read and then bring out my notebook and write out the codes the way I wanted.

Whenever I had money, I would go to the cybercafe, buy time and then open notepad and start typing in the codes...

...I had written in my notebook. I developed so much interest in this way back then that I now setup my own website hosted on a free hosting subdomain.

As time went on, I began to improve myself and upgraded my knowledge. This helped me to have the capacity to offer better services to clients.

In 2007, I started my own computer training school and being self taught, I began to teach my students..

Being an avid reader of Success Digest Magazine way back then, I used to look out for trainings I could afford whenever it was advertised.

I usually looked forward to Mr. @ronaldnzimora's fiery and down-to-earth column then too...

One of those days, I stumbled on a training on How To Design Ebook Covers to be taught by Mr. Julius Ojeagbase for N1000.

I started getting enquiries and boom...before I knew what happened, I had begun to get orders for ebook cover designs.

I developed on the job as each design made me better.

Note: I didn't attend a computer training school save for a crash programme by an NGO that lasted for 5 days where we were taught Microsoft Word and some other software packages I can't recall now.

I spent hours downloading videos on youtube on designs and developed.

I didn't have clients all the time - as that's normal in business. I therefore began to study marketing and how to get more customers.

I learnt about influencer marketing and used this approach to do free ecover designs for some influential persons on facebook about 4 years ago.

Up till today, I still get referrals from those influencers who send clients my way.
