As we go into a new year and a new decade, I will repeat a pledge I have made several times already:

If Brexit turns out to go brilliantly, I will publicly admit to having been wrong, wrong, wrong. No spin, no prevarication. I will own it.
(I hope those in the Leave camp will take the same pragmatic attitude if the Brexit emperor is found to be starkers.)

Boris Johnson's preferred loose "Canada-style" free trade agreement with the EU will not be able to protect just-in-time production.

I wonder how we will cope when our auto industry (over £82 billion a year in revenue and employing 186,000 people) goes away?
That's just the headcount for people employed directly by the main car manufacturers, btw. If you count all the jobs in the supply chain too, the employment of over 850,000 people depends on us maintaining a robust domestic car industry.
Plus remember that 80% of our economy is made up of services. A Canada-style deal would do nothing whatsoever for the service sector. They would lose all the benefits that come from EU membership without anything to replace them.

KS, with either Jess Phillips or Yvette Cooper as deputy, and Labour might have half a chance of being electable again...

Or it can wander off into the trackless wilderness under Rebecca Long-Bailey.
Before you get all hot and huffy, bear in mind there is almost zero overlap at this point between what Labour members want and what the wider population (who will be 100% critical if Labour is ever to get a majority in future) will support.

It’s understood her original preference was to ask EU for a short extension which could be lengthened if needed, or a long one with a break clause in it.
But @MichelBarnier told me yesterday that it’s short or long, not both.
.@MichelBarnier also made clear that a specific reason must be given to warrant an extension: “Needs to be linked to something new - a new event, new political process.“
So:
- election?
- 2nd referendum?
- new cross-party political declaration (removing May red lines)?

I hate Brexit, #IamEuropean, yet I think the UK needs to exit with a no deal.

Sadly, I believe the UK needs to exit the EU without a #brexit deal.

That 30-40% of its population that has post-Imperial delusions need a rude awakening of what the 21st century world is like.

Then, the UK may rejoin the EU in 10-15 years time.
The sad part of this #nodeal #brexit is the people that end up dying unnecessarily because of the Brexiteers pipe dreams.
