@gtconway3d @realDonaldTrump What make this doubly disturbing is that a statement like this reflects extremely stunted emotional functioning. Healthy people recognize they’re upset and seek support for their distress. (1/7)
@gtconway3d @realDonaldTrump Extreme narcissists, because they’re loathe to acknowledge any emotional vulnerability, *blame* the world when they’re upset: “You’re *making* me hate you.” What they really mean is I’m hurt—even angry—about what you said or did. (2/7)
@gtconway3d @realDonaldTrump But acknowledging that people can affect their feelings is too scary, so they split the world, like a 3 year old, into good (“people who make me feel good”), and bad (“people who make me feel bad”). This primitive defense is actually called splitting. (3/7)
@gtconway3d @realDonaldTrump And this is the especially troubling part. (4/7)
@gtconway3d @realDonaldTrump Here we have a POTUS who views who entire states in our country as the enemy, *making* him hate them, as if he has no choice. This kind of “externalizing” behavior is dangerous, because people who display it tend to have precious little self-control.
@gtconway3d @realDonaldTrump As others have pointed out, the abusers favorite excuse is “you made me do it.” Bear in mind that narcissistic rage is all about attacking and destroying the bad (to stop the bad feeling inside, instead of coping with it in healthy adult ways).(6/7)
@gtconway3d @realDonaldTrump We should all be frightened that someone with this kind of power views the world in this way. I say more here. (7/7)
