Deleting this tweet about Biden, because I'm not sure of the context.

As @sreconomist notes, in the same speech Biden was discussing the worldview of the Unite the Right protesters at Charlottesville and there's a chance this line was part of that:

@SrEconomist Here's the full video -- and yes, start at 48 minutes.

It comes in a segment about fighting abuse on college campuses and it seems Biden is actually talking about how "our English jurisprudential culture" has made this an intractable problem in America.

@SrEconomist It's a little garbled, but I think this is Biden riffing on the legacy of English culture in American law.

There's a belief -- apocryphal, I think? -- that "rule of thumb" comes from an English common law provision that let man beat his wife with a stick thinner than a thumb.

I've debated you endlessly here on Twitter -- as actual historians do, laying out arguments in writing with evidence -- but you either ignore me or insult me and run away.

Why on earth would I, or any serious person, ever want to share a stage with you?
Creepily, @DineshDSouza keeps talking about me at public events, pretending I never engage him, but when I do -- again, as actual historians do, in print with evidence, -- he ignores it.

Here's a good example:

It *is* a silly claim, which is why I never made it.
He claimed I said “in God we Trust” was a “new invention” of the 1950s.

I provided proof I discussed it’s origins in the 1860s.

He insisted his claim was right, and kept the tweet up. So I blocked him.

And now he’s proud of it.
Looks like I struck gold too!
