The best analytical advice possible for times like these, where a bunch of idiots on Twitter are talking about how war is imminent, comes from this 2016 @jfmnightwatch piece on North Korea: 
"[Foreign governments] are capable of distinguishing the world-shaking military and economic power of the United States from the vagaries and vicissitudes of its government. Nobody outside of some people in the US makes the mistake of thinking the US is weak."
Precisely. The US "lost" in Iraq at the cost of a few % of GDP for 10 years and perhaps 10k casualties including contractors. The Saddam regime was annihilated and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis died. Multiply those numbers by 2-5 for war with Iran.
