The average adult consumes 17 teaspoons of processed sugar a day which translate to 80kg consumed in a year.

The main culprit is fizzy drinks. The sugar in one 350ml soda is as much as in 1 orange + 16 strawberries + 2 plums.

[1]
The American Heart Association recommends 9 teaspoons of added spoons for men daily and World Health Organisation says only 5% of daily calories may come from processed sugar to avoid lifestyle diseases.

I still believe this is too much...

[2]
In order to deal with sugar addiction people need must take time to avoid processed sugar for atleast 90 days.

After the process processed sugar may be consumed moderately.

Here is why people should quit processed sugar for 90 days...

[3]
1. Sugar is additive

The British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that the addiction to sugar is equivalent to that of cocaine on our brains (you will realise this when you start having withdrawal symptoms).

This implies that we all ‘sugarholics’.

[4]
2. Sugar messes up our appetite control.

Your blood sugar rises as you consume more processed sugar. The increase of blood sugar sends signals to the pancreas to release insulin that is needed to deliver glucose from the blood into the cells...

[5]
This reaction sends signals to your body that you are hungry. Which repeats the vicious cycle: eat sugar, get a temporary high, then crash and then eat sugar again to get more energy.

Anyone remember eating a slab of chocolate and being hungry again in a couple of hours?

[6]
3. Sugar consumption affects our mental functions.

The average adult consumes more than the required sugar needed by the brain to function optimally. The abundance of sugar in our immune systems impair several brain functions.

[7]
A study from the University of South Wales in Australia confirmed that ‘healthy undergraduates students’ participants with high self-reported fat and refined sugar intake were impaired on memory tasks such as logical memory subsets and mathematics.
