Given that Mike Lee is a student of the founding era, he's undoubtedly familiar with the common trope of the 1770s which was that the King could do no wrong, all bad things happening in the colonies were the fault of some evil advisor like Lord North.
This would also be a good time to remember that Mike Lee, like his President who he today thinks is the bees knees, believes that the principles that have animated the Democratic Party since the 1930s are not just to his disliking, but are Satanic.
