If Republicans had good ideas that worked for people, maybe they wouldn't have to instead relentlessly work to dismantle and corrode every apparatus of free and fair elections, idk
If Republican voters feel like they're being marginalized now, wait until we end racist gerrymandering, repeal discriminatory voting laws, patch engineered weaknesses in electronic machines, and close loopholes on electoral interference.

So to be clear: what the Senate will be voting on is whether or not the President can be a criminal and a dictator.

We're going to watch Senate Republicans vote to no longer be a co-equal branch of government, but rather a bunch of money launderers for a mob boss.
To be clear: Republicans will enshrine—by vote—what we've known, which is that they have never cared about, nor have they ever cared about, any of the values they claim: not constitutionality, not national security, not fiscal accountability, nor deficits, nor morality.
It has only ever been about domination in service of theft—that, and nothing else.

They aren't being hypocrites. They have one value, and one only, which is: I do it to you because I can.

Or, if you like: The weak are meat the strong do eat.

They're very consistent to it.

For Republicans, the answer to the question “is the President a criminal?” is not “yes,” or “no,” but “who gives a shit?”

Having said this, all that remains is finding some reason to not give a shit. Any reason will do.

To be clear, if everything Parnas said is true, the government is led by a man who sent a goon to threatene and harm his own ambassador in Ukraine out of a vindictiveness that she wouldn’t assist him in a bribery attempt that gravely threatened national interests.

“So what?”
There is no safe way out of this mess that doesn’t involve the complete electoral dissolution of the Republican Party over the next decade.

It’s an anti-American crime syndicate, among other things, and it’s proud to be one.

Ok. Quick thread on rice farmers and agric policy in Ghana and Nigeria.
I traveled to Asusuare, two hours outside Accra, to visit some smallholder rice farmers. Mr. Charles here is the chairman of the association of over 3,000 farmers in the Greater Accra region. 30% women, average age 35.
Their challenges are similar to what one hears in Nigeria. I did a similar visit last year to Rice Farmers Assoc of Nigeria (RIFAN) in Badagry, but I work with farmers a lot so I hear a lot of this stuff.
Similarities: ave farm size in Both countries 2ha/person, 5-7tons/ha yield

The number of published errors that are 100% due to poor/no training in "basic" data management and manipulation must be enormous.
It's baffling to consider how few people whose *job* it is to work with data actually receive formal training in how to work with data that is led by people with expertise in working with data (i.e. not just passed down from one under-trained researcher to another).
To be clear, this is not a critique of researchers, but rather of how we are trained. And if this applies to you, it's not too late to remedy the deficit yourself.

The professional politicians have done an excellent job of splitting up the issues to keep the citizens fighting with each other so we don’t focus on the fact that they are the problem, not us.
The professional wrestling promoters know that good fighting evil and prompting the audience to be involved in the action will keep people engaged. Our career politicians know it, too.

Without a crisis to engage the public, the career politician is less significant.

1/ A thread on #ownvoices and #representation as well as allyship, guests, holding babies, writing the other, and assorted issues dealing with POC characters/stories being written by white folks. Nothing super new, just bringing nuanced notions together, reflecting on my views.
2/ America desperately needs a LOT more #ownvoices books. That should be our priority. I've even advocated for a sort of #affirmativeAction in publishing. Agents and editors should be ACTIVELY seeking out POC talent, recruiting, nurturing, publishing.
3/ Especially in kids lit. Only 25% of books for kids feature protags of color. Only 6% are actually written by authors of color. Both of those numbers MUST CHANGE, but the second is the biggest problem. Writers of color need to be the main folks writing these stories.
