Looks like Broad Institute just got some CRISPR patents in Europe revoked.

It has to do with rules by which one earns a priority date. Broad lost theirs after a challenge. The reason had to do with how Broad flip flopped early on on whether Luciano Marrafini of Rockefeller was an inventor or not.
Broad also take a dig at Berkeley for intransigence in regards to settling.
I can't remember all the details but this traces back to the swearing behind oath by Feng Zhang in which he basically told Patent Office he'd invented CRISPR tech first....on his own. Here's a screencap of that.
Clarifying: this is ONE patent whose revocation from Jan 18 is upheld on appeal. But there are 5 or so other patents in the same family some of those revoked, too
and those appeals are ongoing
