A characteristic of Left and “South Asian” academic fellowship about “Hindutva” is it is entirely based on the Strawman Fallacy.

The aim is to forcibly fit it into some European historical event or theory. “Hitler”, “Fascism”, “right-wing” “Nationalism” using some stray quotes.
It picks stray quotes and ignores the vast body of thought which runs contrary to this characterization.

The problem is that all the European features are based on a foundation of totalitarian organized religion.

When the fundamental “religion” is plural, it doesn’t map over.
European “right-wing” were the aristocrats vs the Left which represented the commoners.

In Indian politics the closest to the “aristocrats” has been the Congress dynasty and the Anglicized elite ecosystem. The so-called “Right” are commoners and largely Indian language based.
Thus “Hindutva” most closely maps to an anti-colonial movement for native rights, not “right-wing.”

In contrast the “South Asian” academics sitting in CIA-funded “area studies” in the US and the FCRA-NGO Left ecosystem in India represent forces of Imperialism.
