I'd been away from Twitter for 2 weeks -- not by choice. Scrolling again today, and the stupidity, aggressiveness, and meanness feel overwhelming. Maybe staying away is the wiser option.
The great thing about Twitter is that you can read live thoughts from interesting people. The terrible thing is that any random troll can @ them their brain farts.

Users can choose who to follow. They should also be also to disable replies from people they don't follow.
I don't get why I am forced by the app to give a wide public platform to these guys.

Being away from Twitter was psychologically freeing -- no
daily insults, no constant influx of gross ignorance and stupidity and dudes being mad at what they imagine other people are like.

A key design principle I follow in libraries (e.g. Keras) is "progressive disclosure of complexity". Make it easy to get started, yet make it possible to handle arbitrarily flexible use cases, only requiring incremental learning at each step.

Like zooming in a complex landscape.
When you zoom in, the incremental complexity is still part of *the same picture*. Everything you're learning in the beginning will still be relevant once you've become an expert. You will be gradually diving into workflows where you're writing more and more logic from scratch.
So with something like Keras, you won't have to switch to an entire different framework as you go from student to researcher, or from data scientist to deep learning engineer.

The number one thing to keep in mind about machine learning is that performance is evaluated on samples from one dataset, but the model is used in production on samples that may not necessarily follow the same characteristics...
The finance industry has a saying for this: "past performance is no guarantee of future results". Your model scoring X on your test dataset doesn't mean it will perform at level X on the next N situations it encounters in the real world. The future may not be like the past.
So when asking the question, "would you rather use a model that was evaluated as 90% accurate, or a human that was evaluated as 80% accurate", the answer depends on whether your data is typical per the evaluation process. Humans are adaptable, models are not.

Generality in AI (which a matter of degree, not an absolute) is an v. important problem. Yet, strangely, the people who say they work on "AGI" don't seem to be interested in understanding the problem of generality, & instead focus on achieving task-specific skill by scaling up DL
The label "AGI", the way people use it, does not mean "artificial intelligence equipped with broad cognitive abilities, applicable to a wide range of new problems". Rather, it seems modeled on the genie from Aladdin. A omnipotent, omniscient, yet servile & benevolent entity.
It seems to me that the greatest obstacle to making progress towards AI of increasing flexibility & breadth (up to some 'generality' threshold) is the fundamentally incorrect conceptualization of intelligence that is propagated by these sci-fi memes, which is now pervasive

You divide Twitter into an old sector on "1.twitter.com" and put all things we have now over there and a new sector at 2.twitter.com.
Handle pools would start afresh on 2.twitter.com while all users would be checked for activity by having them completing a prompt to switch over to the new sector along with their username & content,

First thing you should know that #mastodon is a decentralized social media platform.

That is the fundamental difference between of it from #twitter or #facebook.

A decentralized network, which means there is no central group with all of the power.

#mastodon isn’t just a website, it is a federation.

There are thousands, of small communities that live within the Mastodon system.

Each one is independent and unique, but they can all talk to one another.

These communities are called "INSTANCES".

@Twitter I drafted a tweet on my phone but of course, can't access "draft's" on the desktop. So lets maybe start there. The desktop and @Tweetdeck version should be MORE robust than the mobile app not less. Tweetdeck, for example, has no bookmarks, emoji's, live video, polls, gif's, etc
@Twitter @TweetDeck There are SO MANY great meaningful quotes, threads, replies, and conversations that vanish into the Twitter ether, drowned out by hot takes, snark, and 280 character riffs on what some influencer or politician just did. Find a way to collect and resurface this treasure trove.

Using "psychological operation" as a term calls to mind conspiracy theories, intelligence activities, etc., which are legitimate considerations of course. However, since we are dealing human communication, the ancient art of rhetoric is always on the table of analysis.
