PS/ In 2016, I was an "electability" voter who favored Sanders, much like many people I knew. Media pretended we didn't exist. But some of us thought that, *unfairly*, Clinton had simply become one of the least popular politicians in America, and (sadly) couldn't get out of that.
PS2/ I always figured that Trump was reading the same polls in 2015 and 2016 that all Americans were, polls which showed that independents *loved* Sanders; that was going to be the death knell for Trump's candidacy (he absolutely *had to have* independents, who detested Clinton).
PS3/ In any event, I mean, of *course*, who *knows* what Trump really believes. But this was a private event in 2018, and he was merely accepting what the polls told us in 2015 and 2016 (and Trump famously *loves* polls, and *trusts* them, for all that he complains about them).
PS4/ But look, ultimately it's meaningless, as those of us who said in 2016 that Sanders had a better shot based on the data got ignored, and anyone who said the same now as to Biden would be ignored, the 2016 results notwithstanding. Everyone believes what they want to believe.
