1. I'm joining @JewishCurrents as Editor-at-Large. (I'll remain a contributor at The Atlantic--where I write on non-Jewish topics--and CNN, and a professor at CUNY). I want to explain why.
2. Ten years ago, I wrote about my hope that young American Jews would see the fight for Palestinian freedom as a matter of Jewish honor. Since then, young American Jews have turned that impulse into a movement. @JewishCurrents has become its journalistic voice.
3. To match its grassroots energy, @JewishCurrents is now getting an infusion of resources. The goal is to build a publication that transforms the American Jewish debate. Given the horror show taking place tomorrow at the White House, the timing couldn't be more urgent.
4. The expanded @JewishCurrents envisions a struggle against anti-Semitism that is interwoven with the struggle against all forms of bigotry, including bigotry against Palestinians. It challenges the separate peace many Jewish leaders have made with Donald Trump.
5. It imagines a democratized Jewish community no longer controlled by oligarchs. It seeks a cultural revival--both religious and secular--that answers the emptiness of much contemporary American Jewish life. These are the great Jewish imperatives of our time.
6. I'm honored to be working with @ArielleLAngel and @jacobplitman, along with @LaraFriedmanDC and @ShevGoldberg, who are joining as contributing writers and @joshualeifer and @maricohen95, who are joining as staff writers. There will be more announcements in the weeks to come.
